# Loyalty Engine guardrails

> Set the spending limits and caps that keep your automated offers and rewards under control: the maximum discounts, budgets, and push frequency the engine is allowed to use.

The **Loyalty Engine** page holds your **guardrails**, the limits that cap what
Zovi's automated offers and rewards are allowed to give away on your behalf. Open
**Settings** from the account menu in the top-right, then choose **Loyalty Engine**
from the tab strip.

<Note>
  Loyalty Engine settings are **owner-only**. Only the clinic **Owner** can open
  and change this page. Managers and staff can't see it.

## Why guardrails matter

Zovi can generate offers and rewards automatically: win-back offers for slipping
clients, personalised rewards, and more. Guardrails are the ceiling on all of
that. They make sure automation never discounts more, spends more, or messages
clients more often than you're comfortable with. Set them once, and every
automated action stays inside these limits.

These caps work alongside the per-treatment **margin band** you can set in
[Treatments](/catalog/treatments), which blocks automated discounts on individual
low-margin services.

## Discount caps

Limit how deep any single automated discount can go, and how much it can be worth.

| Setting                               | What it controls                                                                                                  |
| ------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Maximum discount %** | The largest percentage any automated offer can apply. Allowed range is 1 to 99%. Going above 50% shows a warning. |
| **Maximum automated discount amount** | A hard cap, in your currency, on the value of any one automated discount, regardless of the percentage. |
| **Win-back base discount** | The starting discount percentage used for win-back offers to clients who are drifting away. |

## Budget

Cap your total automated spend so a busy month can't blow past what you planned.

* **Monthly offer budget**: the total value of automated offers the engine may
  hand out each month, in your currency.
* **Stop offers when budget is used up**: turn this on to have automation *stop*
  sending offers once the monthly budget is spent, rather than continuing.

<Tip>
  Leave **Stop offers when budget used up** on if you want a firm ceiling. With it
  off, the budget is a target rather than a hard limit.
</Tip>

## Push limits

Control how often automated pushes can reach a single client, so nobody feels
spammed.

| Setting                     | What it controls                                                      |
| --------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Maximum pushes per day** | The most automated pushes one client can receive in a day (1 to 5). |
| **Maximum pushes per week** | The most automated pushes one client can receive in a week (1 to 21). |

## Win-back automation

Tune how Zovi tries to win back clients who've gone quiet.

| Setting                       | What it controls                                                                                |
| ----------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Win-back trigger** | How many days of inactivity before a client is considered for a win-back offer (7 to 365 days). |
| **Maximum win-back attempts** | How many times the engine will try to win one client back before giving up (1 to 6). |

## Tier qualifying window

* **Tier qualifying window**: the rolling period, in months, that counts toward a
  client's loyalty tier (1 to 36 months). A shorter window rewards recent
  activity; a longer one rewards lifetime loyalty.
